BQdanza...
BQdanza stands for Birlibirloque Danza, the company's previous official
name. Birlibirloque is a Spanish word that our grandparents used to refer
to the mystery and magic of everyday life. A birlibirloque happens when
things appear or disappear without apparent reason, but bring enchantment
to life. BQdanza appears one day in a country with guest dancers in festivals
or self-productions, or in another country with the latest dance film.
In the end, dances' nature is ephemeral, that is the Birlibirloque magic
of a dance performance: it exists, but ceases to exist simultaneusly.
BQdanza,
a link between North and South America
The company opens bridges of collaboration between North and South American
artists. In 1998 Barragan performed with BQdanza's guest dancer/choreographer
Amii LeGendre in Viva la Danza Festival in Ecuador. During September 2000
Birlibirloque and US companies, LeGendre Performance and Spaeth´s
Dance Group performed in two of Ecuador´s most important festivals.
Barragán worked for several year with Mexican artists. (2000-2004).
In this way, artists of both worlds can connect without having to be filtered
through the complex administrative structures that pay attention only
the worlds' established companies. Moreover, BQdanza offers workshops,
residencies and consultation in any area of contemporary dance.
